Eastern NC BBQ Bloody Mary

A twist on the standard Bloody Mary recipe, made with real Eastern NC BBQ sauce!
Total Time 5 mins
Course Drinks
Cuisine Southern
Servings 2

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 Cups Tomato Juice or Clamato
  • 1/8 Cup Eastern NC BBQ Sauce
  • 1/2 Tbsp Grated Horseradish jar is fine
  • 1/2 Tbsp Worchestershire sauce
  • 1/2 Tsp Lemon Juice
  • 1/2 Tsp Celery Salt Alternatives below
  • 2-4 oz Vodka Optional - I prefer Russian Standard

Instructions

  • Mix all ingredients together and pour over ice, Omit vodka for a Virgin Bloody Mary
  • Optionally, rim the glass with salt, Celery Salt, Old Bay, Tajin, or your favorite BBQ rub
  • If at all possible, let rest for a few hours or overnight in the refrigerator, to allow the flavors to meld.

Notes

The reason this works is quite simple - Eastern NC BBQ sauce is a simple Vinegar based sauce that's fairly thin, but packs a nice punch.  You can use any sauce, such as my recipe Eastern NC BBQ Sauce, or when I'm in a hurry, I like George's Original BBQ Sauce - it's a bit sweeter but it really works.

Alternatives

You can add pickle juice or even jalapeño juice for an added bite.  You can also use your favorite Bloody Mary seasoning mix, just be careful with the heat - the BBQ sauce replaced the hot sauce and vinegar found in most recipes, so spiciness is built in.
